What is the goal and target audience?
     The aim of the BI Award for Innovation in Healthcare is to recognize innovative projects in the healthcare sector that improve the quality of life for the Portuguese people. In 2021, the specific theme was the post-pandemic healthcare recovery in Portugal.

What is the context?
     During the pandemic, the focus on combating Covid-19 reduced attention to other diseases, creating an urgent need to restore the quality of healthcare for these conditions.

What are the winning ideas?
      1. First place: The GLIA team from the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto proposed the creation of a teleconsultation room in the Neurosurgery department, with online integration through a digital platform. This platform allows immediate communication with the various health services. This idea focuses on lower back pain.

      2. Second place: The MyDHU team proposed the “Information system to support informal caregivers and patients – An integrative approach to Home Hospitalization.” The idea is to optimize the current Home Hospitalization service by using information and communication technologies (ICT), facilitating communication between different care providers, and especially between them and the patients and informal caregivers.

      3. Third place: The Safer team proposed “proactive identification for quick and safe referral of non-covid patients,” which connects primary healthcare with hospital care and uses business intelligence for clinical prioritization of patients.
